In NCAA Division I men's college basketball, the Coliseum hosted the ECAC Metro Region tournament organized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference in 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981. It also has hosted first- and second-round games of the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 1982, 1994, and 2001. This decision was encouraged by the fact that Frederick Augustus had no male heirs and Frederick William was thus in line to inherit his principality anyway. Nassau-Weilburg lost Kirchheim, Stauf, and its third of Saarwerden .
